Glamour is even more attractive when achieved naturally with wholesome and rejuvenating products. For kids especially, it’s important to teach habits that limit chemical intake and that nourish naturally. Skip the soda and make drinking water a daily healthy habit. Read the labels and don’t buy products with pore-clogging ingredients such as petrolatum and mineral oil. Make homemade lemonade and smoothies rather than enjoying sugary drinks that include high fructose corn syrup. Establishing healthy habits within your family can go a long way toward encouraging your kids and yourself to live a healthy lifestyle. I’ve rounded up a few of my recent favorite skincare products and my go-to DIY sugar scrub to share with you!

Skin: Homemade Moisturizing Sugar Scrub
It’s easy to whip up your own natural body products. Make homemade sugar scrub in your own kitchen and infuse it with a few drops of your favorite essential oil! Mix these ingredients together and salve it on your heels, elbows, feet, and legs for a DIY Spa experience! Gently rub your homemade sugar scrub into your skin, massaging dry or rough areas, and rinse off. Your skin will feel silky smooth!
- 1/2 cup sugar
- Scoop of coconut oil
- Scoop of Shea Butter (optional)
- Few drops of Essential Oil
I’ve had the privilege to try out quite a range of naturally formulated skincare products this fall. Anything that you put into your body or onto your skin has the potential to affect your health. I’ve discovered this as an adult with fairly bad eczema and athlete’s foot. I haven’t done the research to exactly pinpoint the source of these ailments, but I do know that naturally formulated products relieve my dry skin conditions much more effectively than artificially formulated products. I pretty much entirely avoid sparkly and souped-up products with strong artificial fragrances in limitless colors packaged in glossy containers. Who even knows what ingredients they have in them? This September (2016) the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ruled against antibacterial soaps, giving companies a year to take antibacterial ingredients such as Triclosan and Triclocarban out of their products. Fortunately, there are lots of natural alternatives for soap, nail polish, cleansing and moisturizing skincare, and body care products that you can choose for your family.
Rocky Mountain Oil Blends
Essential oils when properly used are a good way to benefit from natural compounds. Rocky Mountain Oils offers a wide variety of essential oils for home use, personal health, and cleaning. Their S.A.A.F.E. Promise is a guarantee that RMO essential oils are 100% pure and natural. Rocky Mountain Oils conducts GC/MS tests on each of essential oil twice; once before purchasing them from a supplier and again before sending them to customers. The RMO S.A.A.F.E. Promise ensures an authentic product you can trust.
Rocky Mountain Oils can be used through diffusion, topical application and household use. Check out my recent Green Kitchen Cleaning Tips; I made an amazing DIY counter cleaner that smells wonderful and naturally kills bacteria using essential oils and vinegar.
The RMO kids line is formulated at a two percent dilution and is safe for topical application on children two years and older. My daughter loves rolling a bit of the lavender Counting Sheep roll-on onto her feed before bed at night.
Questions to ask before buying essential oils:
- Where do you grow your plants and are they grown where the plant grows best?
- Are there pesticides and fillers?
- Are they grown in the correct season?
- What kind of testing do the oils receive?
- Can you look up each oil batch number to see the testing results? (RMO offers this on their website)
- Can the oils be used internally, aromatically, and topically?
Face: Farmhouse Fresh Natural Facial Masks
If you love skincare products and feeling pampered, I highly recommend the Farmhouse Fresh Quick Recovery 3 piece Face Mask Sampler. I used this with my daughter and we both loved it! The set includes a Guac Star Avocado Mask, radiance boosting Splendid Dirt Organic Pumpkin Mud Mask, and exfoliating Pudding Apeel Tapioca Glycolic Mask. This Farmhouse Fresh facial set is 97-99% natural and Paraben and Sulfate Free. The Tapioca Mask smells just like tapioca pudding and goes on silky smooth. A little goes a long way! The Pumpkin Mud Mask was a bit tangy thanks to its detoxifying properties. It wasn’t my daughter’s favorite but I loved it! The pumpkin mask made my face feel so smooth afterwards. This Quick Recovery Sampler is a great gift idea for the upcoming holidays or for any gift giving occasion.
Hair: Favorite Hair Care Products
My favorite hair care products are a mix of natural products and salon favorites. Secret Weapon Touch-Up Cream helps me easily manage my flyaways and it gives my hair extra body. It’s been one of my favorites for a low maintenance hair care routine for a long time.
Kendra Platinum Silkening Gloss smells amazing and gives my hair a little extra shine. 1 pump is all you need for the perfect finish, without leaving your hair looking greasy. It’s not exactly natural with ingredients that include Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Dimethiconol, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Hydrolyzed Silk, Parfum/Fragrance.
2chic Ultra Repair Super Potion Hair Oil Serum from Giovanni is highly nutritional and moisturizing with vitamins A, C, E and K. It’s infused with blackberry, one of the highest ranking fruits for antioxidant strength and coconut milk which is filled with vitamin B6 to seal in skin and hair vibrancy. Giovanni’s formulas are made from the most carefully selected blends of vitamins, minerals, nutrients, herbs and oils that are intended to infuse your skin and hair with moisture and hydration and support a healthy and youthful appearance.
Nails: Piggy Paint Nail Polish
“Natural as Mud” Piggy Paint makes manicures fun for kids and free of unwanted chemicals. Natural nail polish is especially helpful because my daughter often gets it on her skin. Piggy Paint and SOPHi nail polish goes on smoothly and dries quickly. If topped with the Piggy Paint top coat, it lasts for several days. I only wish it would stay on a bit longer, but with kids regularly playing and using their hands any nail polish tends to chip off quickly. I value the natural ingredients used by Piggy Paint more than the chemical-filled durability of other nail polishes. Piggy Paint is fun to use and comes in a wide variety of colors and sparkly hues!
