How to Make Your Own Gummy Bears
To make your own gummy bears, you’ll first need to gather the necessary supplies. You’ll need a silicon gummy bear mold, pomegranate juice (or another kind of juice) and 3 packets of unflavored gelatin. You can add lemon to enhance the gummy bears flavor and even sweeten your gummy bears with honey.
Gummy Bear Ingredients
- 1 cup pomegranate juice
- 1 tbsp. lemon juice
- 2 tbsp. honey
- 3 packets of unflavored gelatin
- gummy bear silicon mold, or another shape
Begin by heating the juice in a small sauce pan over medium heat. Add some fresh squeezed lemon juice and stir in a spoonful of honey. Once the juice is hot and the honey has liquefied, remove the pan from the heat. Continually stirring, mix in the 3 packets of unflavored gelatin a little bit at a time, to avoid clumping. Once the gelatin is fully incorporated, continue mixing as the liquid cools down a bit. At this point as the liquid reaches a warm temperature, you could add some powdered probiotics or vitamin C powder.
Next comes the fun part of making homemade gummy bears! Using a small syringe or small sugar spoon, fill each of the gummy bear shapes in the silicon mold. A syringe makes this task much easier and quicker. Work quickly because as the gelatin liquid begins to cool it will get thicker. If you need to, you can always re-heat the gelatin a bit to return it to a warm liquid state.
Easy Homemade Gummy Snack Flavors
Finally, once the silicon gummy bear mold is completely full, allow the homemade gummy bears to fully set. To speed up the process, you can set the tray in the freezer for about 20 minutes. When the gummy bears are no longer sticky to the touch, you can bend the silicon mold to peel out each gummy bear one by one.
You can try this process for making homemade gummy bears with all sorts of flavors! You could even make yogurt gummy bears and tangy citrus gummy bears.
Homemade gummy bears is a healthy and fun snack for kids! Additionally, if your gummy bears end up being a little too healthy and not sweet enough, next time you can add a little bit of sugar to the liquid gelatin mixture. Alternately, you could experiment with adding Stevia, agave nectar or maple syrup to a batch of homemade gummy bears.
Pomegranate gummy bears with lemon and honey taste a bit tart, since pomegranate is already somewhat tart. You can add extra honey to make them sweeter, or experiment with adding another natural sugar. Homemade gummy bears would taste great with an added boost of powdered probiotics or vitamins. I think it’s pretty cool how easy it is to make your own gummy snacks. Which flavors would you want to make?
