Baby Boy First Birthday Ideas

by Katie Wallace | Updated: January 25, 2017

Recently my baby celebrated his first birthday and with it being so soon after Christmas, I was unsure of how to make it special. I’m sure we will come up with creative birthday celebration ideas in the future, but this year we kept it simple with some fun cake photos, a few practical gifts and a fun little family party.

Baby's First Birthday and Sweet N Swag baby accessories

Fortunately my baby boy is easy to please but what 1-year-old isn’t?? This year has been such a blessing, watching my infant grow up into a little guy and learn new skills. He always has a smile for everyone and recently adopted his own one-of-a-kind wave to everyone he sees. I can’t wait to witness all he learns this year as my little guy discovers how to walk, talk, run and explore. For the big One-Year-Old Birthday, I outfitted my little man in a darling sweater vest and dapper baby moccs and a coordinating baby bow tie from Sweet N Swag. I’ve always loved accessorizing my little man with a bow tie; he definitely has the look for it!

This little guy didn’t need any gifts other than chocolate cake! I love these Sweet N Swag leather baby moccs. My little guy loves pulling his shoes off and I’ve actually lost several baby shoes because of it. These leather baby moccasins are simple and well designed, staying put and hugging his feet in all the right places. I love the fringe detailing and simple design that protects his feet while my baby boy learning how to walk. They also hold up very well, no scuffs to be seen yet. And they are warm when layered over simple socks, much better than when my little guy used to go barefoot because he was always pulling off his shoes.

Sweet N Swag baby accessories come beautifully packed in “gift-ready” packaging. I love the creative window box the baby moccasins came in and the bow tie was attached to a simple card that can be easily tucked into a gift bag. These baby boy bow ties and leather baby moccs are a darling and affordable gift for any new baby and baby shower.

Gorgeous Leather Baby Shoes

Sweet N Swag baby moccasins are lined with cotton to keep your baby’s feet dry & warm and the elastic opening comfortably hugs the foot and keeps the shoe in place. These leather baby shoes are made with flexible soft sole inserts allowing these baby moccs to double as crib shoes or walking shoes.

Each baby moccasin design is detailed with darling leather fringe and these leather baby shoes come in a variety of colors and even patterns! My favorite styles include these Modern Taupe baby moccs for my baby boy. If I had a baby girl I would choose the White Pearl, Lilac Gray, or light pink and gold dot Pretty N Pink baby moccasin styles. They are all so darling and only $20 a pair for beautiful high quality baby shoes!

This little guy loves keeping up with his sisters, trying new foods and being included in everything our family does! He’s such a fun addition to our family; our first little boy! This first year has been filled with cuddles and he started crawling months before his sisters ever did; I think so he could keep up with them! He’s also “such a boy” with an adventurous spirit, interest in climbing and other boyish personality traits. After having two girls, I’ve loved seeing how my son’s baby behavior is different from his sisters as he grows into a rambunctious little boy.

I also love these darling Sweet N Swag baby bow ties. They are super easy to put on with adjustable elastic, gorgeously made and they come in a variety of neutral hues. Baby bow ties are perfect for milestone photos or just accessorizing your dapper baby boy! Sweet N Swag also offers suspenders, pacifier clips and hair bows that each coordinate with the many styles of leather baby moccasins.

TRAVEL | KIDS | ADVENTURES 🌟 Creative family ideas! #createplaytravel

Did you know clothes driers are rare in Europe? 👚👖 Many people line dry their clothes, in an effort to be eco-conscious. When we find the occasional drier at a rental house, it has a water reservoir that we have to empty, almost every load. Often we line dry our clothes, which takes 2 days to dry. 🌟 Learning how to do laundry is one example of how traveling can inspire some lifestyle adjustments. Overall, our family is learning so much and creating so many memories as we explore the world. 🫶🌍🌟 Inspiring families to live creatively and make memories, through adventures! 🌎🩵➡️ follow along! @createplaytravel#createplaytravel #worldschoolfamily #travelwithkids #adventurefamily
Shocker — in France, most candy is made without Shocker — in France, most candy is made without artificial food coloring! Can we do this in the US?? 🙋‍♀️ Asking on behalf of my kids and many other parents! 😄 Here’s why even Haribo is labeled with “sans colorant artificiel” in France:✨ Stricter EU regulations ban or limit synthetic dyes linked to hyperactivity or allergies.🌱 There’s a big cultural focus on natural ingredients and quality over flashy colors.👀 French shoppers read labels and avoid unnecessary additives — especially for kids!⚠️ Plus, any artificial dye used must carry a warning like: “May affect children’s behavior and attention.” (Yikes!)So instead of Red 40 or Yellow 5, French treats get their fun colors from plants — think beet juice, turmeric, spirulina, and carrots. 🍓🌿🌈Honestly? We love it. Simple, clean, and still delicious! 😋Would you try candy colored only with natural ingredients? Let us know! 👇
Major Rome highlight!! Things that surprised us at Major Rome highlight!! Things that surprised us at the Colosseum! 😲🇮🇹Stone passageways surround the arena, with three levels of seating — and beneath the floor lies a maze of underground chambers once used to hold wild animals and gladiators before battle.✨ We learned that the Colosseum could hold over 50,000 spectators, and it was built in just 8 years — incredible engineering for ancient Rome!We reserved special access to the top levels, where only 10 people are allowed every 30 minutes. Our family filled 6 of those spots! 🙌 Having those quiet moments above the arena, with no crowds, was surreal.📸 If you ever visit, definitely consider the extra ticket for this unique perspective!🌟 Inspiring families to live creatively and make memories, through adventures! 🌎🩵➡️ follow along! @createplaytravelHi! When in Rome… 📸🇮🇹 Taking photos at the When in Rome… 📸🇮🇹 Taking photos at the iconic Trevi Fountain was more magical than we expected!💧Built in the 18th century, the Trevi Fountain is the largest Baroque fountain in Rome — and one of the most famous in the world. Designed by architect Nicola Salvi and completed by Giuseppe Pannini in 1762, it stands at the junction of three roads (“tre vie”), which is where it gets its name!We discovered there’s a crowd control system now in place — and it made all the difference! We stood in a short line to enter the front viewing area, completely free and without a time limit. We ended up staying for about 30 minutes, snapping photos and soaking in the view alongside just a few dozen other people.✨ It was such a cool surprise to enjoy this spot without battling a huge crowd. Definitely worth waiting for the photo op!📸 Is visiting the Trevi Fountain on your bucket list??🌟 Inspiring families to live creatively and make memories, through adventures! 🌎🩵🌟 Hi! We created unforgettable memories exploring these We created unforgettable memories exploring these iconic Roman landmarks with our kids! 🇮🇹⛲️ Trevi Fountain — Built in the 1700s, this Baroque masterpiece is where three ancient roads once met. The scale and details are incredible! Standing 85 feet tall and over 160 feet wide, it’s one of the largest fountains in the world!🇪🇸 Spanish Steps — Completed in 1725, these 135 steps link Piazza di Spagna to the Trinità dei Monti church above. We all enjoyed the exercise while climbing these iconic stairs. 🏛️ Pantheon – Nearly 2,000 years old, it’s the best-preserved ancient Roman building. Our kids were amazed by the giant columns (each carved from a single piece of Egyptian granite) and the open oculus letting sunlight stream through the dome.Things we learned while traveling # 10 ☀️ History came alive for all of us in Rome! What a gift to experience it as a family ✨🌍🌟 Inspiring families to live creatively and make memories, through adventures! ✈️🩵➡️ follow along! @createplaytravel#createplaytravel #rome🇮🇹 #travelingwithkids #adventurefamily #worldschooling #kidswhotravel
