There is a hint of fall in the air around here! The thought of coming holidays, cool weather and baking with spices has me feeling happy and nostalgic at the same time. This past weekend the kids and I made our family’s favorite pumpkin spice cookie recipe. We also received the results of a special little project we started a few weeks ago. I’m excited to share both with you!
fWe celebrated my daughter’s 2nd birthday this past week. My son’s 4th birthday is less than 2 months away and we have a new baby coming in 4 months! I have been overwhelmed by the feeling that time is slipping away from me too quickly. How I wish I could just freeze time and savor the joy, excitement, sweetness and discovery these days are full of.
Oh don’t get me wrong. There are also days I wish I could fast forward the stress, the tantrums, the mess and the lack of sleep. But overall I feel these little years are so very short and so very precious. And nothing makes me feel more nostalgic than the holiday season and all the new memories we are creating along the way.
Memories in Clay Hand Print Keepsake
I absolutely love that Memories In Clay gave me the opportunity to create a beautiful keepsake of my children’s little hand prints! I may not be able to freeze time but I love finding ways to preserve the memories of these precious days. Memories in Clay creates quality pieces of art with your children’s hand print or foot print that make lovely gifts and treasured keepsakes.
I was impressed how simple they made the whole process. Memories of Clay sends you a kit with everything you need to make an imprint of your child’s hand. They include the molding clay, a roller, a foil square to roll the clay out on, clear step-by-step directions and even a hand wipe! All I had to do was get an imprint of my children’s hands, bake to let it dry and mail the clay imprint to Memories of Clay in a pre-labled, pre-paid package. One kit includes enough clay to create 2 hand prints. My son enjoyed helping me roll out the clay for this project!
It was a very easy process and turned out much better than a DIY project I had tried on my own with the kids a few years ago. The clay was very easy to work with. When my daughter decided to smash the hand print we’d just made, it was no big deal to just ball up the clay and roll it out again until we got it right!
Once our prints were fully dried and shipped back to Memories in Clay, I went online to the link provided in my order confirmation email and I was able to select the exact design, wording, coloring, and ribbon color for my siblings hand print keepsake plaque. They even allow you to request personalized information to be engraved on the back of your keepsake piece. They used the clay imprint I made as a mold to make a 3D clay image of the hand prints which gets painted, glazed and fired in a kiln. I appreciated how easy it was to customize exactly what I wanted. Memories in Clay’s customer service was excellent and they did a great job keeping me updated on the process and shipping times.
My kids were as excited as I was to receive the finished product in the mail about 6 weeks later! We love how the siblings hand print keepsake plaque turned out and I will be displaying it in our family room. Memories in Clay also created two individual, 3D hand prints for each of my kids with their name and age engraved on the back. These will be lovely Christmas ornaments for our Christmas tree in just a few months. Memories in Clay also makes precious newborn baby keepsake plaques which I will look forward to making once our 3rd baby arrives! You can choose from many different pieces of art that displays your child’s (or pet’s) hand and foot prints.
My kids are growing and changing so quickly and I love having these physical reminders of this special time in their childhood. Family life can be crazy but each day is filled with so much fun and joy!
Pumpkin Spice Cookie Recipe
I also want to share our family’s favorite Pumpkin Spice Cookie recipe! My son loves helping me in the kitchen (even if it’s messy and slows me down somewhat). As he grows older I hope he will have fond memories to look back on. Making these cookies have become a fall tradition for our family. Pumpkin Spice Cookies are simple for little kids to be able to help with too! We like to add extra spices like cardamom and nutmeg but these fall cookies can be made using just cinnamon if you prefer.
- 1 can pumpkin puree
- 2 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup oil
- 2 eggs
- 1 tbsp. vanilla
- 3 cups flour
- 1 tsp. milk
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. cardamom
- 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line a cookies sheet with parchment paper.
- Combine pumpkin, oil, eggs and sugar. Mix together.
- In a separate bowl combine flour, salt, baking powder and spices.
- Dissolve 1 tsp. of baking soda into 1 tsp. of milk and add to wet ingredients.
- Add flour mixture to wet ingredients and combine well.
- Stir in vanilla and chocolate chips.
- Spoon onto the baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees.

Happy fall to you all! I hope you have fun making your own precious memories to treasure for a life time!
