Summer is the perfect time to take a sheet and some bean bag chairs outside and enjoy a backyard movie night! Kids will love the novelty of watching a movie outside, and you can share the fun by inviting friends and neighbors. Throw in a BBQ to make it a full night of fun and mix up these delicious popcorn combinations!

Instant Movie Theater

  • 1 sheet, canvas drop cloth, or white tarp
  • Fence or wall to hang the “screen” on
  • Projector
  • Comfy chairs, blankets and pillows
  • Popcorn, snacks and drinks

Watching a movie isn’t the same without popcorn! Serve your popcorn with butter or spice it up with chili powder, or a lime seasoning blend.

Chili-Lime Popcorn


  • 3 cups air-popped popcorn (1/4 cup unpopped)
  • ¼ tsp. chili powder
  • ½ tsp. ground cumin
  • ¼ slice medium sized lime
  • Salt to taste

Pop the popcorn and stir together the chili powder and cumin in a small bowl. Place popcorn in a large bowl and squeeze the lime slice over the popcorn. Toss the popcorn and then sprinkle on the chili powder and cumin mix. Season with salt to taste. Recipe credit: snack-girl.com

White Chocolate Popcorn - Backyard Movie Night

White Chocolate Popcorn


  • 8 cups air-popped popcorn (heaping 1/2 cup unpopped)
  • Half a bag of white chocolate chips OR 6oz white chocolate almond bark.
  • 1 1/2 tbsp. butter
  • 3/4 tsp. salt

Pop the popcorn and melt the chocolate and butter in a double boiler or a microwave safe bowl for 30 seconds at a time, mixing in between intervals. Mix the salt into the melted chocolate. Spread the popcorn on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Quickly drizzle the melted chocolate over the popcorn and let dry. You can also accent this popcorn blend by adding sprinkles or coarsely chopped nuts. Recipe credit: thewannabechef.net
