American Girl Doll Kitchen Review (Lights, Sounds & Play Food)

My daughter Kiera has always loved being in the kitchen with me. One summer she helped bake batches of cupcakes and cookies, proudly mixing, measuring, and frosting. So when we heard about the American Girl kitchen play set, she was beyond excited. American Girl sent us the set to review, and we are thrilled to share a closer look.

A Doll Kitchen That Inspires Cooking

This American Girl kitchen has everything to create a beautiful culinary space for 18″ dolls. It comes in two sections: a countertop island with a sink, and a refrigerator connected to the stove and oven. Both are surprisingly heavy and very good quality, down to the tiniest knob. My daughter Kiera loved opening all the accessories and miniature utensils.

The Baking Station

The set comes with everything to pretend you and your doll are baking together. There are tiny canisters of “flour” and “sugar” (white glitter). Girls can mix cake batter in the bowl with the tiny mixer, measure with the little cups and spoons, then slide a pie into the oven and serve a slice on small plates.

If you don’t feel like baking, you can make a pizza or a stack of pancakes instead! The fridge holds milk, butter, eggs, lemonade, lemons, cheese, salad, dressing, syrup, and more. It is all detailed with the signature American Girl quality.

Lights, Sounds, and Realistic Play

This is where the kitchen really shines. Many appliances light up or make sounds. One burner makes a boiling sound when you set a pot on it. Another whistles like a kettle. The oven dings when the pizza or pie is done, and the food changes color after “baking.” The ice machine dispenses two pieces of play ice with a pouring sound, and the refrigerator light turns on when you open the door.

• Kitchen island counter and sink with cabinets and small drawers.

• Kitchen supplies including cheese grater, frying pan, a stock pot and kettle.
• Food you can bake in the oven, including a color-changing pie, and a color-changing pizza.
• Breakfast food including box of pancake mix, a short stack of pancakes with butter, a bottle of syrup, a fried egg, six eggs in a carton, two slices of bacon, a bacon box, and a butter dish.
• Fresh food & drinks including lemons, wedge of cheese, bag of salad, salad dressing, jug of milk, pitcher of lemonade, and four ice pops.
