Our Family Visit to Moon Valley Organics Farm

by Katie Wallace | Updated: April 28, 2026

We visited a Washington farm that makes amazing herbal skincare products and supports sustainability. We really enjoyed meeting the owners, exploring the pollinator gardens, and seeing how Moon Valley Organics makes natural moisturizer, lip balm, and more! See the highlights from our family visit!

A Local Washington Family Farm

The Moon Valley Organics farm sits on 10 acres in Deming, Washington. We enjoyed a tour of the grounds, gardens, and buildings where they make their natural skincare products. The company was created by Aaron and Kim Otto out of a personal need for clean, organic products to cleanse and moisturize sensitive skin.

How would you like to work in this picturesque building? The converted barn and storage rooms hold the office, production kitchens, a soap making room, and an herb drying loft. This family-owned company produces soaps, balms, and lotion bars formulated with herbs and essential oils. Moon Valley Organics sells their products online and through retailers. A few years ago, we visited their booth at Seattle’s Pike Place Market.

Handmade Herbal Products

When we arrived at the farm, Kim was swapping out trays in the beehives and harvesting honey and honeycomb. She even offered us a delicious sample!

The folks at Moon Valley Organics grow and dry many of their own herbs. Kim, an herbalist, told us she developed their product formulas through her own research and the help of local herbalists. They grow a number of their herbs right on the farm and infuse them into oils to make their products.

The herb drying loft is a spacious, cool place to dry fresh herbs in large quantities. The blend of all the herbs together fills the barn with a soothing fragrance.

Pollinator Gardens

The farm has many gorgeous views and quiet places to relax. It sits in a valley between two hills, with plenty of room to grow herbs and produce. We walked through flower gardens which they planted especially for pollinators.

“We like to give back to the community,” Kim told us. “Being able to take money, knowledge, and networking and put it to good use and save pollinators has really invigorated us. We are donating our fields to the bees by planting them a pollinator habitat.”

The farm has also participated in Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms. This program connects people with organic farmers to experience life on a farm and learn new skills. WWOOFers spend about half a day helping out on a host farm, learn about sustainable agriculture, and receive room and board during their stay.

Natural Skincare

Moon Valley Organics makes soaps, salves, muscle rubs, ointments, and beeswax lip balms, among other products. Each one is made with the intention to nourish the body and care for the earth. The product blends use organic ingredients and sustainably farmed herbs. Workers at the farm carefully dry, process, and package herbs on site. Other herbs are sourced from local organic farms and suppliers who support fair trade.

Beeswax Lip Balms

My daughter’s favorite products were the beeswax lip balms. These came in fun flavors like Cool Mint Vanilla, Juicy Blackberry, Velvety Vanilla, and Tropical Coconut Lime. The silky balm uses organic cold-pressed oils and beeswax to seal in moisture. Moon Valley Organics donates a portion of the lip balm profits to protect pollinators.

Overall, we really enjoyed our visit to the Moon Valley Organics farm! It was fun to learn more about the inspiration behind their natural products. A stop like this is a lovely reminder that family adventures can be as simple as touring a local farm. We loved meeting the people behind the Moon Valley Organics skincare brand!

Every new adventure teaches them they can do hard things!

Travel also teaches kids flexibility, resilience, and resourcefulness in real life.

Already, our kids can confidently order lunch in another language, navigate a new city, and start planning our next adventure themselves. 🌍

We’ve experienced that travel isn’t just about seeing new places. It’s about raising curious, confident kids who are ready for the world!

Turns out iPhones and saltwater don’t mix. 💦 A qui Turns out iPhones and saltwater don’t mix. 💦 A quick dip (a splash really) completely destroyed my phone’s screen and any media that wasn’t backed up to iCloud.

Not a huge deal though. 😌 I was without a phone for a week and I realized it was refreshing. So when I got a new iPhone $1000 later, I made some big changes. I didn’t reinstall half my apps. No Signal or Facebook. I continue to not have X, Snapchat, or TikTok. Because I’m so busy with family life and being a mom (and pregnant), these apps are just so distracting and overstimulating for me.

Good news! I have a working phone and you can find me on Instagram, text on iMessage, and occasionally see photos on Facebook when I post from my computer.

💬 Is anyone else completely overstimulated by all the distracting apps?? 😄🤯
