Slime is super easy to make and really fun to play with! Red, white and blue slime is a creative activity for the Fourth of July or any open afternoon! Kids can easily mix up their own slime using these simple non-toxic ingredients.

If your feeling crafty, easily make this star-spangled slime. DIY sensory slime is a great summer kids activity! All you need is a few simple ingredients.
Star Spangled Slime Ingredients
- 1 cup clear glueโ
- 1/2 tsp. baking sodaโ
- food coloring & glitterโ
- contact solution (containing boric acid & sodium borate)
To make slime, first pour 1 cup clear craft glue into a mixing bowl.โ Clear glue will create clear slime, white glue will create opaque slime.
Next, stir in 1/2 tsp. baking soda. โ The baking soda helps create the chemical reaction to make slime.
Add a few drops of food coloring & glitter.โ You can also add confetti!
Fully mix the ingredients until combined. โ
Finally, add a squirt of contact solution and stir. The boric acid & sodium borate in some brands of contact solution activates the creation of slime! The slime will be goopy at first and then get stretchier. The more you play with slime, the better it gets!โ
Mix glitter, small beads or confetti into this star spangled glitter slime! We made several colors of blue and red slime. The slime recipe is the same for all colors. Before you add the contact solution, simply add a few drops of any color of food coloring and a dash of sparkle!ย The contact solution will start the chemical reaction to create fun, sensory, stretchy slime. For even color distribution, make sure to add the color before mixing in the contact solution.
How to Play with Slime
Slime is a great sensory activity for homeschool, after school play and just for fun! Play with slime on a clean surface such as a counter top, table or tray. Stretch it, pull it, squeeze it and flatten it out on your play surface.
Do keep slime away from clothing! Homemade slime tends to stick to fabric quickly and melt into the fabric fibers. If you do get some slime on clothing, simply scrape the slime off the fabric and give the fabric a rinse with water. Once you’ve fully scraped the slime off, you can spot treat any remaining stain and launder the clothing item as usual.
