Europe with Kids | YouTube Videos 2023

Follow our adventures as we explore Europe with kids! In summer 2023, we took our three kids to Europe to visit Paris (France), England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland. We saw the Eiffel Tower and went to the top. We also stayed in a castle in Cumbria, England. Of course, we had to explore the UK countryside in Scotland and Wales. We invite you to watch our videos to see the highlights of our family travel adventures!

Paris, France – Explore Europe with Kids

Our adventures exploring Paris with kids included visiting the Eiffel Tower and taking family photos in front of it. We enjoyed lots of amazing baked goods and tarts at French bakeries. One afternoon we visited the Palace of Versailles and toured Marie Antoinette’s home. We also went to Parc floral de Paris and spent a few hours wandering around the garden paths. Last but not least, we saw the Arc de Triomphe and iconic Banksy street art inspired by Napoleon Crossing the Alps.

Cumbria, England Family Adventure

After boarding the Eurostar train and traveling to the UK, we spent a day in London, followed by heading north to Cumbria in North West England. Here we stayed for a few nights at Augill Castle, which is a beautiful bed and breakfast inside a restored castle. We also tried out ghyll scrambling in the Lake District, which involved putting on water resistant suits and shoes. We hiked to the start of a number of shallow streams and small waterfalls, and proceeded to wade and slide down the ghyll scrambling route. This wet hike was definitely a highlight of our family adventures in Cumbria!

Knaresborough, England Family Adventure

Next on our Europe trip with kids, we visited Knaresborough in North Yorkshire, England. Here we stayed in a family’s home through Trusted Housesitters, and we watched their pet dog for two weeks. Additionally, we saw the annual Knaresborough bed race. This competitive event was a fun glimpse of local community color. We also went to the historic Wednesday Market in the Knaresborough town square. Nearby, we hiked through Brimham Rocks National Trust and climbed some rock formations with our kids.

Wales Hobbit House – Explore Europe with Kids

Once we arrived in Wales, we stayed in a hobbit house through Airbnb. You can also book a stay through the Holiday Wales website. The hobbit house was a really unique place to stay in Wales and our kids loved it! We also went on a riverbed walk in the Elan Valley and saw an immense old dam. Cerrado los lunes! 😟☀️ We showed up at the zoo onl Cerrado los lunes! 😟☀️ We showed up at the zoo only to discover it was closed on Mondays.

Thankfully, our family has gotten pretty good at pivoting when plans change. Instead of heading home, we set off on a mile-long walk to Centro Histórico Mérida and turned an unexpected detour into an adventure.

We explored local markets, enjoyed tacos and sopa de lima for lunch, and let the kids burn off energy at a park. The Mérida heat definitely called for a treat, so we stopped for fruit bars that cost just 40 pesos (about $2.50) each. We made it home just in time for Juliet’s nap!

Next time, we’ll check the zoo schedule before we go. But honestly, this unexpected change of plans turned into a pretty great day!

✨ Takeaways:

• Travel helps build resilient kids. When plans change, they learn to adapt, stay positive, and enjoy the adventure anyway.

• Some of our best experiences happen when things don’t go as planned. The zoo will still be there another day! 🦓🐊🦛

• We’re growing in Spanish every day. The kids are becoming more confident with pronunciation, casual phrases, and new vocabulary as we navigate life in Mexico.

💬 What do you want to know about our life in Mexico?

Hola from Mérida! 🇲🇽☀️ Our first week has been cha Hola from Mérida! 🇲🇽☀️ Our first week has been challenging and rewarding as we settle into life in Mexico with our 4 kids!

• We’re finding our new normal, discovering favorite stores, trying grocery delivery, getting used to air-drying clothes and doing dishes (no clothes dryer or dishwasher).

 • We’ve almost finished all steps for receiving our family’s permanent residency cards. Praying for successful completion!

 • Also experiencing frequent tropical afternoon downpours, magnificent and soaking! 🌴

 • Being without city water for 20 hours, which impacted washing dishes and taking showers. We used our rooftop water tank sparingly.

 • House hunting & touring several long term rental houses; we hope to find a good fit for our stay-at-home lifestyle and hosting too!

I keep reminding myself that we moved here! We’re not just visiting for a few weeks. 🤯😄

Overall, we’re grateful. ☀️🙂 It’s been a good first week, and we’re excited to continue settling in and discovering what life in Mérida has in store for our family!

Juliet couldn’t walk yet and just wanted to experi Juliet couldn’t walk yet and just wanted to experience this iconic destination in Rome like everyone else! 😊 Thankfully, no one complained.

So amazing! 🇮🇹 The Spanish Steps are a famous staircase in Rome that connect the Piazza di Spagna to the Trinità dei Monti church, built in the 18th century. With 135 steps, it’s a fun spot to pause, people watch, and take in the lively culture of the city!
