When I first moved to Coeur d’Alene, I had no idea which parks were located in which neighborhoods. Now I know that you can find a ton of fun parks in Coeur d’Alene and Hayden if you just know where to look! Beautiful parks, fun playgrounds for kids and easy hiking trails are just a few of our favorite family activities in downtown Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
A trip to a local fossil dig is an interesting way to add some adventure to our regular homeschool week. We headed out to Clarkia Miocene Flora Fossil Dig in Idaho with our 3 kids to see what we could find. Evidently, the Miocene time period is the first geological epoch of the Neogene period. We mostly found impressions of leaves which were trapped between layers of sediment that later hardened into rock. Our family discovered that digging for fossils is a pretty cool hands-on science activity!

You can often find an interesting family adventure just around the corner! We had a blast sliding down the Lionhead natural water slides in North Idaho.
On sunny days, we love going on outdoor adventures. One afternoon we took our kids on an off-road RZR ride in the Coeur d’Alene National Forest and stopped for lunch at Gold Creek Lodge.
One of the best things about living in the Pacific Northwest is that we have so many great destinations to explore so close to home. Winchester Lake State Park is one of those destinations, just two and a half hours south of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. We headed down there with our kids for a relaxing multi-day camping trip!

Camping at Farragut State Park near Coeur d’Alene is a great way to enjoy beautiful North Idaho. Here are some of our favorite family camping activities to do with our kids.
We took our kids to the 7-Mile ORV Park near Spokane, Washington. Our kids had a blast on their ATVs, practicing the skills they learned in their off-road safety class.
We love our family life and everyday routine living in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. We’re surrounded by natural beauty and a colorful small town experience. We also enjoy getting out of town and heading to nearby Pacific Northwest destinations such as Seattle, Washington. It’s just a 5 hour drive to take our kids to the Seattle area for a few days. We enjoy stopping by many of our favorite places to go with kids in downtown Seattle. This visit we stayed in a house we booked through Home Exchange and browsed the Pike Place Market. Our kids conquered the climbing structure at the Seattle Center Artists at Play playground and we enjoyed a relaxing walk through the Woodland Park Zoo. Families can find many places to go with kids in downtown Seattle.

Do you love exploring the outdoors? We’ve spent many memorable hours tubing, boating and kayaking with our kids. These four water-based activities are great ways to make memories with your family in the glorious outdoors.

What’s your favorite way to make family memories? Our family enjoys taking short family trips, exploring a new area and sleeping in our RV under the stars. We live in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho which gives us easy access to many cool Pacific Northwest destinations. We discovered some great road trip destinations and family activities during a short summer getaway to Montana. Our kids ventured across the Kootenai Falls Swinging Bridge also used by firefighters, slid down the Whitefish Mountain Resort Alpine Slide and enjoyed a night out at Seussical the Musical. These 5 things to do with kids in Northwest Montana are definitely worth checking out on your next family trip!
