Best Playgrounds and Parks in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho

by Katie Wallace | Updated: March 12, 2021

Coeur d’Alene, Idaho has a lot of great parks and playgrounds for families with kids of all ages to enjoy. When I first moved to Coeur d’Alene, I had no idea which parks were located in which neighborhoods. Now I know that you can find a ton of fun parks in Coeur d’Alene and Hayden if you just know where to look! Here’s my list of best neighborhood parks for kids in CDA, including which playgrounds have splash pads, interesting play features and more!

Generally, Coeur d’Alene city parks are open from 5 am to 11 pm. The neighborhood splash pads are open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.

McEuen Park

Located in downtown CoeurΒ d’Alene by the lake and CDA resort, McEuen Park is a fun place for kids of all ages to climb and play. This playdate-worthy park features a huge playground for older kids and a separate play space for toddlers. Interesting playground activities include a sandbox with digging tools, oversized pipes where kids can play musical notes, numerous slides, swings and a kid-friendly manually operated merry-go-round. The only tricky thing about this park is that it’s huge so kids can disappear quickly into the playground labyrinth on their quest for fun! Fortunate the toddler area is a bit smaller which makes it easier for moms to monitor and assist younger kids. McEuen Park also has a huge splash pad with a variety of water features.

Address:Β 420 E Front Ave, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814
Splash Pad: Yes
Restrooms: Yes
Features: Playground, walking paths, enclosed dog park, basketball court, soccer field, splash pad, parking.

Fort Sherman Playground

Next on our list, the Fort Sherman wooden playground is perfect for hide and seek with its many nooks and crannies. Kids can chase each other along the elevated wood pathways, scramble up and down the climbing walls, spin on the tire swing and walk across the swinging bridge. The whole playground is surrounded by a security fence to keep kids from wandering off.

Address: City Park,Β Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814
Splash Pad: Yes, nearby
Restrooms: Yes
Features: Huge wooden climbing structure, slides, monkey bars, wooden boat, swings, tire swing, toddler area.

Bluegrass Park

Additionally, Bluegrass Park is situated in the middle of a neighborhood so it stays less busy than the city parks. Kids can play while moms sit on the benches within the fence surrounding the playground. A huge grassy area surrounds the park, perfect for bringing along a picnic lunch. I’ve met up with other moms for several playdates with my kids at Bluegrass Park. Playground features include two toddler swings, two big kid swings, a sand box, large playground and several plastic slides. A cement splash pad is situated just outside of the playground fence.

Address: 6071 N Courcelles Pkwy, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83815
Splash Pad: Yes
Restrooms: Yes
Features: Playground, splash pad, basketball court, volleyball, tetherball, a picnic shelter with
BBQ, paved bicycle trails, parking.

The Landings Park

The Landings Park is a nice destination for a group playdate because it has lots of room and a big splash pad with many water features. Several trees provide shade around the park and kids can play in the water and the run over to the playgroup or toddler area to dry off. The playground offers climbing activities, slides and swings.

πŸ’‘ Essential tips for traveling with our 4 kids! 🧳 πŸ’‘ Essential tips for traveling with our 4 kids!

🧳 Pack light with items that do more

We bring clothes that mix and match, quick-dry layers, fold-flat totes, and activities that encourage creativity. Think art supplies and travel board games. The less we carry, the more we can explore.

πŸ₯ͺ Eat often and try new flavors
We use snack stops and meals to experience local culture. Bakeries, fruit stands, and small cafΓ©s become our favorite spots.

🏞️ Choose simple adventures over packed days
We go on kid-friendly hikes, stop at playgrounds, and tour cultural centers. We visit great houses, historic workhouses, and local museums.

πŸ“± Use screens sparingly
Ideally our kids only use screens on travel days, and with a time limit. Shows and multi-player games can help turn dull afternoons into family fun!

πŸ”¦ Encourage curiosity
We explore as much as we can with our four kids, shopping at markets, using public transportation, and visiting immersive attractions. We find many free activities, and budget for must-see destinations.
