Easy DIY Felt Pennant Banner

by Katie Wallace | Updated: September 14, 2018

What announces a party like a pennant banner? A DIY pennant banner is very easy to make. Additionally, you can coordinate the colors to match any party theme! Once the party is over, you can hang the pennant banner in your child’s room or in a playroom to add cheerful color. I made this felt pennant banner in under an hour with just a few supplies. I used ribbon, felt, a piece of cardboard, scissors, a hot glue gun, and a measuring tape.

Learn how to make a colorful pennant banner in just a few easy steps.

DIY Pennant Banner Materials

  • colored felt
  • ribbon
  • piece of cardboard for the template
  • scissors
  • hot glue gun
  • measuring tape

First, make a pennant banner template by cutting a piece of cardboard into a uniform triangle. You will use this cardboard template to cut pieces of colored felt into identical flags.

Next, place the cardboard template directly onto the felt and cut around it. Alternately, you can trace the template onto a piece of felt and cut along the lines. I stacked several pieces of felt and cut out several flags at one time.

Use this process to cut out 20 felt pennant banner flags in various colors, or more for a longer banner. You can make a colored pattern or a random assortment of colored flags.

Create the DIY Pennant Banner

Once you’ve cut out an assortment of felt flags, it’s time to create the DIY pennant banner. Use a hot glue gun to attach the felt flags along the length of a long piece of ribbon.

I laid out the flags along the ribbon before gluing so I could alternate the colors and make sure the colors were well balanced. I also used a ruler to make sure the flags were evenly spaced.

When you’re ready to attach the flags to the ribbon, squeeze a line of hot glue along the top of each flag. Carefully lay the ribbon along the line of glue, pressing gently. Make sure the ribbon lies flat and doesn’t twist as you attach each pennant banner flag.

Decorate Indoors or Outdoors

You can use a colorful felt pennant banner indoors or outdoors. I’ve decorated our dining room for birthday parties by hanging up a pennant banner with push pins. Additionally, I’ve hung this pennant banner on our patio for an end-of the-summer barbecue. Ultimately, these colorful pennant banner flags would liven up any party!

Secrets revealed 🌍 for family travel & worldsch Secrets revealed 🌍 for family travel & worldschooling!

These tips make traveling with kids ALOT easier!

πŸ“š Schoolwork: Our kids complete lessons in their workbooks several times a week. While traveling, we often bring along Math-U-See workbooks, language arts, and spelling. This keeps our kids moving forward and feeling productive.

🏰 Field trips: We go on excursions to amazing castles, fascinating museums, and interesting cultural centers. We talk about geography and science as we explore amazing places!

🎧 Downtime: We often have rest time while traveling. We read books or listen to audio books and music.

πŸ’Ά Allowance: We give our kids weekly spending money. They can earn this by doing chores at our Airbnb. I also pay our kids to participate in family photos, often $5 each per city! This results in great attitudes when taking photos in Paris, Rome, or London. πŸ“ΈπŸ˜€

With these tips, our travel life easily becomes regular life, and we get to see amazing destinations and make memories together!

Airbnb makes traveling with kids so flexible! But Airbnb makes traveling with kids so flexible! But we’ve had to buy some household essentials for our stays. We usually bring our own:

trash bags, cleaning supplies, laundry soap & stain remover, sponges & dish brushes, extra toilet paper, sometimes cute decor! πŸ˜†

The reason for this is that Airbnbs are usually not stocked with household supplies. I have my own go-to to favorite products for wiping countertops and doing laundry.

Additionally, when we travel, we often stay in 5 to 10 Airbnbs, and it’s nice to have our household essentials with us.

Which household essentials can you not do without while traveling? 😊🧻
