How to Make Your Own Homemade Fruit Snacks

To make your own fruit snacks, you’ll first need to gather the necessary supplies. You’ll need a silicon gummy bear mold or alternate shape, fruit juice and 3 packets of unflavored gelatin. In this recipe, we used pomegranate juice, with a squeeze of lemon to enhance the gummy bears’ flavor. You can also sweeten your gummy snacks with honey.

Fruit Snack Ingredients

  • 1 cup pomegranate juice
  • 1 tbsp. lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp. honey
  • 3 packets of unflavored gelatin
  • gummy bear silicon mold, or another shape

Heat the Juice & Gelatin

Begin by heating the fruit juice in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add 1 tbsp. squeezed lemon juice and stir in 2 tbsp. honey. Once the juice is hot and the honey has liquified, remove the pan from the heat. Continually stirring, mix in the 3 packets of unflavored gelatin a little bit at a time, to discourage clumping. Once the gelatin is fully incorporated, continue mixing as the liquid cools down a bit. At this point as the liquid reaches a warm temperature, you could add some powdered probiotics or vitamin C powder.

Fill the Gummy Molds

Next comes the fun part of making homemade gummy snacks! Using a small syringe or small spoon, fill each of the gummy shapes in the silicon mold. A syringe makes this task much easier and quicker. Work quickly, because as the gelatin liquid begins to cool it will get thicker. If you need to, you can always re-heat the gelatin a bit to return it to a warm liquid state.

Peel Out Each Homemade Fruit Snack

Finally, once the silicon gummy mold is completely full, allow the homemade fruit snacks to fully set. To speed up the setting process, you can place the mold in the freezer for about 20 minutes. When the gummy snacks are no longer sticky to the touch, you can bend the silicon mold to peel out each snack one by one.

Try Different Gummy Snack Flavors

You can use these steps to make homemade gummy bears in a variety of flavors, such as lemon, grape, or orange. You could even mix yogurt into gummy snacks. Making homemade fruit snacks is a tasty do-it-yourself project.

Healthy homemade fruit snacks for kids

Homemade gummy bears is a healthy and fun snack for kids! If your gummy snacks end up being a little too healthy and not sweet enough, try adding more natural sweetener to the liquid gelatin mixture. Alternately, you could experiment with adding agave nectar or maple syrup to a batch of homemade gummy snacks.

Pomegranate gummy bears with lemon and honey taste a bit tart, because pomegranate juice is naturally tart. You can add extra honey to make them sweeter, or experiment with adding another natural sweetener. Additionally, you could infuse these homemade fruit snacks with an added boost of powdered probiotics or vitamins. I think it’s pretty cool how easy it is to make your own gummy snacks. Which flavors would you want to make?
