One of my favorite things about having girls is watching them enjoy the toys I loved as a child. American Girl is one of my all-time favorite brands. I loved collecting the dolls, sewing custom clothes, and choosing new outfits from the catalog. I gave my oldest daughter my own Truly Me doll as soon as she was old enough to care for her. Since then, we have grown our collection. One doll my girls love is American Girl Nanea Mitchell, a Hawaiian girl from 1941.

Nanea’s Story: Aloha Spirit in 1941
The Nanea Mitchell American Girl doll has big hazel eyes and wavy dark-brown hair. She arrives in an authentic 1940s outfit and comes with the book Growing Up with Aloha. Nanea has a heart to care for her friends and neighbors by sharing the aloha spirit. Kindness matters even more after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Her story introduces kids to important history and the value of community during hard times.
AG Doll Details
The 18″ Nanea doll has a huggable cloth body. Her head and limbs are smooth vinyl and move easily. She includes the paperback book, the first in her series. My girls are still too young to read on their own, so I enjoy reading Nanea’s stories aloud to them.
Nanea’s Outfit and Accessories
Nanea’s outfit includes a button-up blouse with an island print, sailor-style shorts, and brown cross-cross sandals. She even comes with a hibiscus flower hair clip.
She is also fun to dress in her add-on hula outfit. It comes with a faux ti-leaf skirt that rustles like a real hula skirt, a red Hawaiian top, colorful leis, and feathered gourd shakers. Her additional outfits highlight traditional Hawaiian designs and are sold separately.
