The Perfect Afternoon Tea Party Play Date

by Katie Wallace | Updated: August 1, 2016

If you have little girls, you likely know all about tea parties, twirly dresses, and living room fashion shows. Matilda Jane Clothing makes lots of darling outfits for little girls that mix and match, and many styles grow with your child such as dresses that can also be worn as tops as a little girl gets older. I have two girls who can already trade clothes even though they are 2 and 4 years old. Matilda Jane Clothing makes their clothes swapping even easier!

Whimsical Clothing for Little Girls

My favorite thing about Matilda Jane Clothing are the darling patterns. Someone in the designing department must be having a ton of fun! Matilda Jane dresses are known for their coordinating yet contrasting prints; one dress will often feature 6-8 patterns within the same design, but somehow they always come together in a darling style. Many of the dresses have straps that loop through button holes and tie in the front, allowing them to be adjusted. Many of the dresses can be transformed into tops when a little girl grows and worn with leggings. My girls were so excited to dress up in Matilda Jane outfits and enjoy a darling tea party with their WellieWisher American Girl dolls! Tiny cakes to share with their adorable dolls is a little girl’s afternoon dream come true!

Every girl needs a Matilda Jane dress, a fuzzy kitten, and a WellieWishers American Girl doll

Matilda Jane also offers solid dresses that are adorably detailed with ruffles, ties, and tiered layers. Everything coordinates with matching Matilda Jane hair accessories and leggings separates.

For babies toddlers, these knit leggings from Doodle Pants coordinate with my daughter’s dusty blue 2T Matilda Jane dress that ties in the back. Doodle Pants offer a wide variety of knit baby leggings each with a cute character on the rear, for over-the-top cute styles!

Matilda Jane dresses are beautifully detailed with ruffles, coordinating patterns, and bows

Every little girl needs a WellieWishers Doll from American Girl, a fuzzy kitten, and a Matilda Jane dress! The WellieWishers Doll Collection features 5 friends including Ashlyn, Camille, and Willa, each with their own beautifully unique outfits and coordinating Wellie boots. These darling WellieWishers dolls are the perfect guests to invite to afternoon tea.

Timeless Clothing Styles

Matilda Jane Clothing offers timeless styles and high quality designs. I love the whimsical ruffles, pockets, buttons, and bows that empower little girls to be girly as they twirl and go on adventures. I can’t wait to see what the 2016 Matilda Jane Fall Collection has in store for back to school and fall fashion! Some of my favorite new releases include this darling “Oh Dear” tunic with lavender, aqua and printed ruffles and a gorgeous purple striped bodice. This Happily Ever After Skirt features multicolored tulle layers and a fun dose of charm, accented by mauve pinstripes.

I had a chance to wear one of my favorite Matilda Jane dresses today, after a nursing sabbatical. Its high neckline doesn’t make it very accessible nursing wear, but it’s a classic style for the rest of the time! Now that my little guy is starting solids and nursing less frequently, I’m happy to be able to once again enjoy Matilda Jane fashion! Matilda Jane’s Splended Dress is part of the new Once Upon a Time collection and it’s easy to see why it’s truly splendid! The bright blue hues contrasting with several shades of pinks and fuchsias in a darling floral pattern make this Matilda Jane dress a fashion statement that’s hard to miss! I love that Matilda Jane offers beautiful fashions for moms and women as well as little girls, and many of them coordinate!

Back to School Fashion

Your little girl can go to school with their own Matilda Jane backpack, water bottle, sandwich box, or lunchbox! These back to school lunch items are decorated with the same styles found on Matilda Jane clothing. It’s so refreshing to find back to school gear that encourages little girls to be just that; darling little girls. Matilda Jane lunch gear is decorated with whimsical flowers, dots, and muted patterns in hues of green, pink, aqua, and yellow. Coordinating backpacks and pencil cases are made from quilted fabrics in the same adorable Matilda Jane patterns. Now your little girl can wear and take Matilda Jane to lunch time!

Coming to terms with the past, and pressing forwar Coming to terms with the past, and pressing forward with grace, that’s all any of us can do.Lately, I’ve been asking myself some hard questions… especially when it comes to homeschooling. Here’s the truth:I can’t keep homeschooling the way I’ve been doing it.I’m not a teacher in the traditional sense, and I don’t love teaching. That’s not why we chose this path. The real reason we homeschool is because we want our kids to have freedom.🌟 Freedom to learn how to learn🩵 Freedom to discover what they love😀 Freedom to grow in diligence and live out their faith boldlyBut as I wrestle with our present, I’ve also had to face my past.I was homeschooled, too. There were a lot of blessings in that, but also some challenges. I grew up in a conservative environment where the focus was often on sheltering kids. And while I know that came from a place of love, it was hard. Especially as a teenager trying to figure out what I believed for myself. In our family’s younger years, our homeschool rhythm has been pretty relaxed, mostly workbooks and flexible days. But moving forward, things are going to look different. Here’s what I do know about the road ahead (and I’ll share more in upcoming reels):— We’re still homeschooling… just reimagining it.— We’re asking the Holy Spirit to lead our family.— Our kids know the Gospel, and that’s our foundation.— We want to live with intention and boldness.— We’re giving our kids space to try new things while they’re still at home.— I’m praying for a gracious heart when the questions come (because they will come).Maybe this resonates with you. Maybe you’ve felt that tension too, between what you grew up with and what you want to build now.If so, you’re not alone. 🫶🌟(continued in the comments)Follow our journey!

Throwback to a year ago. ❤️ We did it! 🥹😎 I had our baby in Merida MX and with some effort, we got her documents lined up to bring her home. She’s a dual citizen, with double US & MX birth certificates and passports. 🌎🌟It was a great experience! 😌🌄😍 We felt like God was with us, led us through the whole process, and provided for us so tangibly even in the small things. 💗🎬 Watch my YouTube video highlighting what we learned by having a baby in Mexico!🌟 Inspiring families to live creatively and make memories, through adventures! 🌎🩵➡️ follow along! @createplaytravel#digitalnomads #birthingabroad #worldschoolingfamily #adventurefamily #travelwithbaby
Tuscany villa stay straight out of a fairytale! ✨🌿🇮🇹This overnight at an “agriturismo” was perfect for our family of 6. 🌹🍷 We loved staying in our cozy villa, exploring the gorgeous tree lined lane, smelling roses, and sipping local wine while our kids played in the yard. Safety is a top priority when traveling with kids! Safety is a top priority when traveling with kids! 🌎🌟 We’ve learned a lot through our experiences. For example, when arranging a ride to the airport in Cancun, we followed these guidelines ⬇️1. We hired a driver through a company that had good reviews. This gave us peace of mind when traveling 4 hours across Mexico ☀️2. We told friends/family about our travel plans including when we left Merida and when we arrived in Cancun. This gave us some accountability 😃3. Finally, we trusted our instincts. We are continually growing in our travel knowledge and intuition. We often know when an arrangement needs to be changed. Often, we meet very friendly and interesting people!➡️ Would you take your kids on an adventure in Mexico? We had a very positive and memorable experience!! 🌴🌟 Inspiring families to live creatively and make memories, through adventures 🌎🩵➡️ follow along! @createplaytravel#createplaytravel #homeschoolfamily #travelwithkids #adventurefamily #worldschooling #kidswhotravel
