Prince Charming Infant or Toddler Halloween Costume

by Katie Wallace | Updated: September 19, 2017

One year I decided to get creative for Halloween by making my baby boy a Prince Charming Halloween costume. He was so adorable and it was pretty easy to make by tracing one of my little guy’s long sleeve shirts. If you know basic sewing skills, you can easily make one of these Prince Charming costumes yourself!

How to make a baby boy Prince Charming costume

When I make costumes, I often trace my kid’s clothing so I don’t have to buy a pattern. If you know the general idea of how patterns work, it’s easy to make your own pattern and add an allowance for the seams. I cut the fabric about 1/2 inch wider than the torso of my child’s long sleeve shirt (the sleeves were tucked underneath so I could get the accurate torso shape).

Next I cut out the arms of my Prince Charming costume. Again, I left allowances for the seams and to turn under the cuffs, as well as the top rounded part of the sleeve.

Once the pattern is cut, it’s time to put the Prince Charming costume together! I like sewing the costume together the best; cutting out the pattern isn’t my favorite part.

I detailed the front and neckline with some yellow satin fabric, and added a gold trim around the waistline. I love creative sewing projects and designing homemade Halloween costumes are a great excuse for practical creativity!

I also made my baby boy some epaulets with more yellow satin fabric and fringe trim. I love how my baby boy Prince Charming costume turned out!

I also made his shimmery crown out of lace and Mod Podge. These flexible kids crowns are so easy to make and fun to customize!

DIY Prince Charming Toddler Halloween Costume and Just Unique Boutique Girl's Dress

Little princes and princesses love to play and swing! My little guy didn’t seem to mind being a prince for a day.

My daughter also loves dressing up in her gorgeous dresses from Just Unique Boutique. This little girl’s gold dress is detailed with a paisley pattern, organza overlay, a sash and a removable bow. If you need a special occasion dress, I’d highly recommend this shop which offers little girl dresses in hundreds of styles and colors.

πŸ’‘ Essential tips for traveling with our 4 kids! 🧳 πŸ’‘ Essential tips for traveling with our 4 kids!

🧳 Pack light with items that do more

We bring clothes that mix and match, quick-dry layers, fold-flat totes, and activities that encourage creativity. Think art supplies and travel board games. The less we carry, the more we can explore.

πŸ₯ͺ Eat often and try new flavors
We use snack stops and meals to experience local culture. Bakeries, fruit stands, and small cafΓ©s become our favorite spots.

🏞️ Choose simple adventures over packed days
We go on kid-friendly hikes, stop at playgrounds, and tour cultural centers. We visit great houses, historic workhouses, and local museums.

πŸ“± Use screens sparingly
Ideally our kids only use screens on travel days, and with a time limit. Shows and multi-player games can help turn dull afternoons into family fun!

πŸ”¦ Encourage curiosity
We explore as much as we can with our four kids, shopping at markets, using public transportation, and visiting immersive attractions. We find many free activities, and budget for must-see destinations.
