DIY Apple Candles

by Katie Wallace | Updated: September 4, 2023

How darling are these fresh apple tea lights? You can easily make DIY apple candles using a handful of small unblemished apples. Furthermore, they’re an inexpensive way to creatively decorate a fall table. Learn how to make these pretty harvest-inspired table accents in a few steps.

Decorate for fall with apples

Choose Small Unblemished Apples

To make homemade apple candles, select a handful of small apples that are free from blemishes. Wash the apples and pat them dry.

I picked these apples from our apple tree in our front yard. I chose to make candles using home-grown apples because they tend to be smaller.

How to make apple tea light candles for fall

Cut a Circle in the Top of Each Apple

To begin, trace around a tea light to make a circle on the top of each apple.

Cut around the circle using a small knife. First remove the stem and then cut down vertically to carve a tea-light shaped impression in the apple.

Next, carefully scoop out the top of the apple with a small spoon.

Finally, insert a tea light into the top of each apple candle holder.

Apple Candles Create Pretty Ambient Light

These apple candles create beautiful ambient light. They definitely make make my home feel more like fall.

Please be careful when you light the tea lights. Make sure to give your candles adequate space to flicker without catching anything on fire. As an alternative to open flames, you could use battery operated tea lights.

These easy apple candles are perfect for a seasonal party because they are inexpensive to make. I also think the harvest-inspired tea lights are whimsical. Additionally they’re disposable; you can simply throw them away after the party ends.

To kick this idea up a notch, mix and match fresh apple candles with small pumpkin tea lights using the same technique. Making homemade fall decor is a creative way to customize your home.

I love this idea, it makes me wish I could use candles (they are too dangerous for our free flying birds)
