DIY Tooth Fairy Coins

by Katie Wallace | Updated: July 26, 2016

These DIY tooth fairy coins make losing a tooth magical! My daughter first heard about the tooth fairy from an older friend, and ever since, she’s been looking forward to her first tooth falling out. At only 4 years old, she may have a little while to wait, but that hasn’t stopped her from checking her baby teeth often! Since she’s already so excited, we decided to bring the magic to life early with a few creative DIY tooth fairy ideas. One of our favorites is making sparkly tooth fairy coins that look like they came straight from a fairy’s treasure chest.

How to Make Glittery Tooth Fairy Coins

Tooth fairy coins are a fun craft and a sweet way to surprise kids when they lose a tooth. They’re easy to make with just a few supplies you probably already have at home.

Supplies:

  • Small coins (pennies or foreign coins work best)
  • Spray paint (optional)
  • Clear acrylic spray
  • Fine glitter (gold, purple, aqua, or any favorite color)

Instructions:

1. Spray paint your coins if you want a colorful base, then let dry.

2. Coat coins with clear acrylic spray.

3. While wet, sprinkle with glitter.

4. Let dry, flip, and repeat on the other side.

5. Seal with a final coat of clear spray.

These glittery coins make a visit from the tooth fairy feel extra magical. Kids can tuck them into a keepsake box, exchange them for a prize, or simply enjoy the sparkle. This is such a fun DIY tooth fairy craft that will inspire your child’s imagination.

A Tooth Fairy Kit to Save the Memories

Another fun way to celebrate your child’s first lost tooth is with a keepsake tooth fairy kit. This one includes a silky pouch for tucking baby teeth under the pillow, a door hanger to remind the fairy to stop by, and a baby tooth album to store each tooth. Some sets even include stationery so kids can write letters back and forth with the tooth fairy.

Tooth fairy kits come in many themes and styles, making them a thoughtful gift and a perfect way to mark the milestone of those first toothless smiles.

✨ Whether you surprise your child with sparkly DIY tooth fairy coins or use a keepsake kit to store their baby teeth, these tooth fairy ideas are a magical way to celebrate this childhood milestone.

DIY Tooth Fairy Ideas

Overall, DIY tooth fairy coins are a creative kids activity that inspires extra magic. When my daughter finally loses her first tooth, I know she’ll be thrilled to discover a few glittery coins waiting under her pillow. They’re perfect for kids who don’t need real money yet. Make this a game and allow your child to exchange their coins for a small prize or treat. Best of all, tooth fairy coins are far more whimsical and definitely more sparkly than ordinary money!

This is such an adorable way to introduce the tooth fair and also to store the baby teeth. It is so much better than putting the tooth in an envelope that is dated and thrown into a cabinet.

Why is he such a great influence?

TobyMac has been creating and performing music for more than 40 years. From his early days with DC Talk to his solo career, he’s consistently used his creativity and platform to encourage people and boldly point them toward Jesus.

We’re so thankful for artists who bring high energy, excellence, and faith together in a way our whole family can enjoy. Nights like this aren’t just fun. They’re meaningful.

We love making family memories like this! 💛

If you’ve ever been to a TobyMac show, you know the joy is contagious.

Some homeschool days are smooth, others are hard. Some homeschool days are smooth, others are hard. 😌 We try to appreciate the journey!

Confidence is built when kids learn to keep trying, even when it’s frustrating. We remind our kids to take the first step… and then the next. To us, progress matters more than perfection.

We believe diligence grows when our kids know they’re capable, and supported.

🙌 We trust God with the growth, and we show up for the daily work.

This homeschool semester started with the things our kids love most: focused learning, creative projects, and staying active. Right now that looks like basketball, cheer, and lots focused school days.

These home seasons matter. They give our kids space to build skills, explore interests, and settle into routines — while we take a pause from exploring new places.

A lot of people ask if I miss traveling. Honestly, I don’t right now. 😀✨ I’m really enjoying this purposeful season of family life and growth. When the time feels right, we’ll plan our next adventure. 🗺️
