Kids will have a blast making these personalized Valentines out of colored cardstock and fruit snacks. As soon as February arrives, my kids love making homemade Valentines. We typically set up a little post office and my kids create and deliver homemade cards to each other. These hot air balloon Valentines are a cute way to give a pack of fruit snacks or small treat bag to your friends! To make them, all you need is colored cardstock, ribbon, scissors and a glue stick.
This post was written in collaboration with Welch’s fruit snacks. All opinions are our own.
My kids love designing their own Valentines for friends and family. Sometimes their craft ideas require a bit of my help. My girls enjoy gluing paper together, cutting out paper shapes, and painting creative designs.
To make these hot air balloon Valentines, we cut out shapes to make the baskets and hearts for the balloons. We also added packs of Welch’s fruit snacks to our Valentines as an extra treat! Fruit snacks are a tasty source of Vitamin C and they come in lots of different flavors including apple, strawberry, grape and more. These Welch’s fruit snacks were heart shaped with cute little emoji faces on them. We wrote a friend’s name on each pack of fruit snacks and tied them onto our hot air balloon baskets.
DIY Hot Air Balloon Valentine Craft
Supplies
- colored card stock
- ribbon
- scissors
- glue stick
- stickers
- packs of fruit snacks
To make a hot air balloon Valentine, cut out an angled square shape to make the hot air balloon basket. Add a strip of contrasting colored paper to decorate the top edge of the basket. Punch two holes along this strip to tie on a pack of fruit snacks with ribbon. The double layer of paper looks cute and will also help prevent the basket from tearing.
Attach lengths of ribbon to the basket and connect it to the balloon. Cut out paper hearts and glue them together to create a multi-balloon design. Alternatively, you can cut out a single hot air balloon shape using colored cardstock.

Write a poem – Kids can practice their writing skills and write a poem for mom, dad or grandma. Classic Valentine’s Day poems often start with “Roses are red, violets are blue…” As a twist, kids can also think up some Valentine’s Day jokes to include with their homemade notes.
Make sugar cookies – Baked goods are fun to make and yummy to eat! A batch of Valentine’s Day sugar cookies are the perfect treat to share with friends or take to a class at school. See our sugar cookie decorating tips here!
