Meet American Girl Luciana Vega – 2018 Girl of the Year

by Katie Wallace | Updated: March 1, 2018

Meet American Girl Luciana Vega! She is American Girl’s 2018 Girl of the Year. Luciana loves science and she especially dreams of being an astronaut. She inspires girls to pursue their dreams and interests in the realm of math and science. My girls really enjoy learning about the world through play. Luciana is a fun pal to go on adventures with. Her storybook is about her experiences at space camp, making new friends and using brilliant thinking to solve problems.

American Girl created Luciana Vega to inspire girls to learn more about space, astronauts and scientific study. Luciana is an adventurous girl who is thrilled to attend space camp. She hopes to become an astronaut and visit Mars someday. The Luciana Vega doll comes wearing a colorful outfit, shiny holographic boots and space accessories.

Luciana Vega – 2018 Girl of the Year

Luciana Vega is American Girl’s 2018 Girl of the Year. She is an aspiring astronaut ready to take the next giant leap to explore Mars. The Luciana Vega doll is a modern addition to the American Girl doll collection. Her warm brown eyes open and close and her straight dark-brown hair is accented with a bright purple hair streak. Additionally, she has a huggable cloth body, movable head and limbs made of smooth vinyl.

Playtime with Luciana is a fun opportunity to learn about the galaxy. Kids can look up just how far away Mars is from the earth. (The average distance is about 225 million km.) Kids can color constellation coloring pages or make a cosmic blueberry smoothie (see our recipe below!)

American Girl Luciana learns about the value of teamwork in the first book of her series. Luciana is great at science and she’s excited to go to Space Camp! When she’s chosen to lead her team in a robot challenge she learns the value of becoming someone her crew can depend on, no matter what.

Luciana Vega Doll Highlights

My girls enjoy dressing up Luciana and going on space adventures. We may even make Luciana her own spaceship as an afternoon project one day!

Luciana fits perfectly into the existing collection of American Girl characters. We love several things about this 2018 doll of the year.

First, she is made with the same great quality American Girl uses for all their dolls, outfits and accessories. She has a huggable body, movable head and smooth vinyl arms and legs. Luciana’s shiny boots are beautifully detailed and the shiny material makes a statement! Her space accessory set contains a lot of fun space items — even a pack of pretend dehydrated ice cream!

Furthermore, my girls really like the purple streak in Luciana’s hair. Her character overall is a fun representation of girls who love style, science and STEM subjects.

Additionally, Luciana’s outfit is out of this world! Her pink star dress and holographic accessories send the message that girls can enjoy both fashion and science. My girls love accessorizing and they also enjoy doing science activities. American Girl Luciana Vega is the perfect doll to take on a space adventure!

I love that American Girl’s 2018 doll of the year Luciana Vega makes learning about space exciting. Overall, American Girl dolls bring the fun of imaginative play together with relatable stories. It’s so fun for girls to collect the American Girl outfits and accessory sets over time and bring their own stories to life!

Coming to terms with the past, and pressing forwar Coming to terms with the past, and pressing forward with grace, that’s all any of us can do.Lately, I’ve been asking myself some hard questions… especially when it comes to homeschooling. Here’s the truth:I can’t keep homeschooling the way I’ve been doing it.I’m not a teacher in the traditional sense, and I don’t love teaching. That’s not why we chose this path. The real reason we homeschool is because we want our kids to have freedom.🌟 Freedom to learn how to learn🩵 Freedom to discover what they love😀 Freedom to grow in diligence and live out their faith boldlyBut as I wrestle with our present, I’ve also had to face my past.I was homeschooled, too. There were a lot of blessings in that, but also some challenges. I grew up in a conservative environment where the focus was often on sheltering kids. And while I know that came from a place of love, it was hard. Especially as a teenager trying to figure out what I believed for myself. In our family’s younger years, our homeschool rhythm has been pretty relaxed, mostly workbooks and flexible days. But moving forward, things are going to look different. Here’s what I do know about the road ahead (and I’ll share more in upcoming reels):— We’re still homeschooling… just reimagining it.— We’re asking the Holy Spirit to lead our family.— Our kids know the Gospel, and that’s our foundation.— We want to live with intention and boldness.— We’re giving our kids space to try new things while they’re still at home.— I’m praying for a gracious heart when the questions come (because they will come).Maybe this resonates with you. Maybe you’ve felt that tension too, between what you grew up with and what you want to build now.If so, you’re not alone. 🫶🌟(continued in the comments)Follow our journey!

Throwback to a year ago. ❤️ We did it! 🥹😎 I had our baby in Merida MX and with some effort, we got her documents lined up to bring her home. She’s a dual citizen, with double US & MX birth certificates and passports. 🌎🌟It was a great experience! 😌🌄😍 We felt like God was with us, led us through the whole process, and provided for us so tangibly even in the small things. 💗🎬 Watch my YouTube video highlighting what we learned by having a baby in Mexico!🌟 Inspiring families to live creatively and make memories, through adventures! 🌎🩵➡️ follow along! @createplaytravel#digitalnomads #birthingabroad #worldschoolingfamily #adventurefamily #travelwithbaby
Tuscany villa stay straight out of a fairytale! ✨🌿🇮🇹This overnight at an “agriturismo” was perfect for our family of 6. 🌹🍷 We loved staying in our cozy villa, exploring the gorgeous tree lined lane, smelling roses, and sipping local wine while our kids played in the yard. Safety is a top priority when traveling with kids! Safety is a top priority when traveling with kids! 🌎🌟 We’ve learned a lot through our experiences. For example, when arranging a ride to the airport in Cancun, we followed these guidelines ⬇️1. We hired a driver through a company that had good reviews. This gave us peace of mind when traveling 4 hours across Mexico ☀️2. We told friends/family about our travel plans including when we left Merida and when we arrived in Cancun. This gave us some accountability 😃3. Finally, we trusted our instincts. We are continually growing in our travel knowledge and intuition. We often know when an arrangement needs to be changed. Often, we meet very friendly and interesting people!➡️ Would you take your kids on an adventure in Mexico? We had a very positive and memorable experience!! 🌴🌟 Inspiring families to live creatively and make memories, through adventures 🌎🩵➡️ follow along! @createplaytravel#createplaytravel #homeschoolfamily #travelwithkids #adventurefamily #worldschooling #kidswhotravel
