Planning a Minecraft birthday party? When my daughter asked for a Minecraft theme for her 6th birthday, we came up with all kinds of creative ideas. Here are the highlights of our homemade decorations, blocky snacks, and a few simple games. You can do many of these Minecraft birthday party ideas using cardboard, tissue paper, and supplies you already have at home.
Use these ideas as inspiration and pick the ones that fit within your plans. A DIY themed birthday party is a great way to make unforgettable memories!

Minecraft-Inspired Potions
An easy, colorful drink station is a great place to start. Buy a flat of small water bottles, peel off the labels, and add a squirt of flavored water enhancer to each bottle. We made purple, blue, and orange Minecraft-inspired potions. The party guests loved choosing their favorite colors, and the bright bottles doubled as decor.

Blocky Minecraft Party Food
Half the fun of a Minecraft party is turning everyday snacks into game elements. A few of our favorites:
- Rice Krispie treats cut into squares for sheep
- Green gelatin squares for grass blocks
- Fresh strawberries with the stems sliced off, lined up as redstone
To tie it all together, print a set of Minecraft party signs for each snack. Little touches like that make the table look pulled together with almost no effort.

The Minecraft Birthday Cake
For the cake, we started with a square chocolate base and topped it with stacked cake cubes, and “dirt” icing topped with green fondant squares. To top the cake I made little Minecraft clouds from cardstock on wooden skewers. This cake looked so colorful and fun and was easy to make at home!

DIY Creeper Piñata
A homemade creeper piñata was a favorite party game. I covered a cardboard box in fringed green tissue paper to create the creeper look, then added a black cardstock face. I filled the piñata with a generous quantity of wrapped candies such as starbursts, peanut butter cups, and mini bags of skittles. At the party kids took turns whacking it with their DIY cardboard swords. For the final round, kids had a turn using a sturdier stick, with plenty of space from other guests for safety.

Fun Minecraft Party Games
A couple of simple Minecraft games can help keep the party moving!
Creeper Chase – A twist on tag where whoever is “it” wears a creeper paper mask while chasing everyone else.
Silly String Battle – Hand out cans of silly string and let the kids spray away. This kids activity is loud, colorful, and fun to play!

DIY Minecraft Swords
Making Minecraft swords doubles as a craft and a party favor for kids. We made cardboard swords ahead of time, then let each guest color their own sword during the party. The kids loved creating a sword to take home.
Sword materials:
- strips of cardboard
- scissors
- paper and printer
- hot glue gun
- spray adhesive

How to Make Minecraft Swords:
1. Cut cardboard strips about 20 by 4 inches, with the corrugated lines running lengthwise for strength.
2. Shape a pointed tip at one end and cut out a handle at the other.
3. Make double-sided hilt pieces from cardboard and attach them with hot glue.
4. Print the sword and hilt patterns, then glue them on with spray adhesive. Do the spraying inside a cardboard box to catch the overspray.
5. Set out markers and let the kids color their swords however they like.
A quick tip: the cardboard swords are not super durable, so gentle play will help them last through the party. Download our free printable sword and hilt templates!

Easy Minecraft Sheep Decoration
For a simple Minecraft themed decoration, cover a cardboard box in packing tape and add a sheep face. This idea costs almost nothing and adds a fun, blocky Minecraft touch to the birthday party space.
Minecraft Birthday Memories
A themed birthday party your kids will remember does not require a big budget or fancy supplies. A little cardboard, some tissue paper, and a few DIY snacks go a long way. Pick a handful of these Minecraft birthday party ideas, or try them all to celebrate your special birthday kid!
