Goldenberry Pancakes & Magical Amulet Craft

by Katie Wallace | Updated: September 8, 2016

Sometimes the simplest moments at home turn into magical memories. Inspired by Sofia the First, we paired a cozy batch of Goldenberry Pancakes with an easy magical amulet craft. It made for a truly princess-worthy afternoon of play. This fun combination encourages pretend play, hands-on creativity, and a special treat all in one. It’s perfect for preschoolers who love dressing up and bringing their favorite stories to life. Whether you’re planning a themed breakfast, a rainy day activity, or adding a little extra magic at home, this craft and pancake party is fit for royalty. πŸ‘‘

One of my favorite things about having young kids is their love for imaginative adventures. If your children have watched the Disney Junior show Sofia the First, you probably recognize Princess Sofia. She goes on many adventures with her royal step-siblings, Princess Amber and Prince James. Their lovable bunny friend, Clover, is often by their side. The show is full of castles, kindness, and magical lessons. It has just enough sparkle to inspire hours of pretend play!

Sofia the First Pancake Adventure

The other night, we decided to make breakfast for dinner. My four-year-old had a very specific request; she wanted Sofia the First Goldenberry Pancakes. In the show, Sofia makes these special pancakes to celebrate Amber and James’ birthday. That moment clearly made a lasting impression. To enjoy our royal meal properly, my daughter dressed up as Princess Sofia. She also insisted on making her very own magical amulet.

If you’re not familiar with Sofia the First, it follows a young girl who becomes a princess overnight when her mother marries the king. Sofia learns how to navigate royal life and new sibling relationships. She also takes on big responsibilities while staying true to her kind heart. Her magical amulet allows her to communicate with animals and sometimes summons Disney princesses when she needs guidance. The show gently teaches lessons about empathy, honesty, courage, and belonging, making it a favorite in our house.

This DIY Princess Sofia magical amulet was easy to make with a piece of cardboard, a discarded clothing tag, and some glittery paper and trim. If you’re like me, you may have collected lots of craft supplies, which are perfect for spontaneous kids craft like this!

Materials

  • Oval piece of cardboard
  • Clothing tag
  • Length of elastic
  • GlitteryΒ purple scrapbook paper or card stock
  • Jeweled trim, rhinestones, or purple beads

Instructions

Glue all materials together using hot glue. Attach the clothing tag to the cardboard oval to form the pendant base, then cover the cardboard with glittery purple paper. Add elastic to create a necklace and decorate with rhinestones or trim. Slip it on, and let the royal adventures begin! βœ¨πŸ‘‘

πŸ’‘ Essential tips for traveling with our 4 kids! 🧳 πŸ’‘ Essential tips for traveling with our 4 kids!

🧳 Pack light with items that do more

We bring clothes that mix and match, quick-dry layers, fold-flat totes, and activities that encourage creativity. Think art supplies and travel board games. The less we carry, the more we can explore.

πŸ₯ͺ Eat often and try new flavors
We use snack stops and meals to experience local culture. Bakeries, fruit stands, and small cafΓ©s become our favorite spots.

🏞️ Choose simple adventures over packed days
We go on kid-friendly hikes, stop at playgrounds, and tour cultural centers. We visit great houses, historic workhouses, and local museums.

πŸ“± Use screens sparingly
Ideally our kids only use screens on travel days, and with a time limit. Shows and multi-player games can help turn dull afternoons into family fun!

πŸ”¦ Encourage curiosity
We explore as much as we can with our four kids, shopping at markets, using public transportation, and visiting immersive attractions. We find many free activities, and budget for must-see destinations.
