So next time you empty a tin can or glass jar, don’t throw it away! Just wash it out and fill it with pretty blooms.
Painted Tin Can Vases
I have several cans painted white that I use to hold flowers. I love white because it makes the colorful blooms pop. But you could paint your cans any color you like. Tin cans are sturdy and have a wide mouth. This makes them great for holding a big bunch of flowers. Plain silver cans look pretty in the mix too.
Making a tin can vase is simple. First, remove the label. Soaking the can in warm, soapy water usually loosens it. For sticky residue, a little baking soda mixed with cooking oil rubs right off. Then wash and dry the can. I painted some of my upcycled tin cans with a coat of white craft paint or spray paint.
Recycled Glass Jar Vases
Glass mason jars also make excellent flower vases. I save so many jars once they are empty of pickles, olives, or jam. Just peel off the label and give the jar a good wash. Any leftover sticky spots come off with a little baking soda and oil. Mason jars and pickle jars are pretty and sturdy. They hold all sorts of flowers beautifully.
Group Upcycled Vases for a Pretty Display
I use these cans and jars a few different ways. Sometimes one holds a single little bouquet. Other times I group several together for a fuller display. In the summer, my kids are always bringing me flowers from our yard. So I keep a whole collection lined up on our kitchen windowsill.
