Recycled Spray Painted Chandelier

by Katie Wallace | Updated: June 9, 2016

I love taking something that was discarded and turning it into something beautiful. I found this chandelier at a local ReStore and if I was perfectly honest, my first thought was how ugly it was. True, I was seeing it out of context and it probably looked beautiful in its original Victorian style home; but at the recycling center surrounded by a variety of mismatched light fixtures, it just looked scrappy. I also balked at the price, $100, but after the second loop around the store I was inspired. A coat of spray paint could make this light fixture the focal point of a modern home.

I did it! I brought the metal rose chandelier home. (This is the picture from the text I sent my husband, prior to purchasing.) This unique rose light fixture still looked sad and scrappy. It had too many colors and too much distressing on the paint in my opinion. The metal roses are the coolest feature of this diy painted chandelier, and I like the detail shown in the metal leaves. I later learned these rose light fixtures are actually pretty expensive on Ebay.

I have a fairly modern decorating style for our home, so I gave this recycled rose chandelier a coat of green paint. This turned the variety of distressed pastels into a uniform shade of minty green. I slightly speckled the leaves with a slightly darker shade of green for a subtle ombre effect.

Next I redid the roses. These bright pink metal roses may be a bit bold for some, but in our home they are a beautiful focal point. I’ve had this diy painted chandelier up for more than a year now and I still love it.

The metal roses accepted the pink Rust-Oleum spray paint flawlessly. I could only find this pink hue in a glossy paint finish, but I think the gloss adds to the final look of my metal rose chandelier. (Stay tuned for the post about how to re-seed your grass, jk! …but ours needs it.)

Beautiful DIY painted chandelier. Some round bulbs give this whimsical rose chandelier a modern look.

I love having this metal rose chandelier in my home, especially since I made it my own by updating the painted finish. The green base of this modern chandelier matches the green in our kitchen, and the pink metal flowers add beautiful accents to our dining room and great room.

What’s been your favorite project to fix up for your home? We’d love to hear about your own DIY projects, shared in the comments.
