Meet American Girl Nanea Mitchell – 1941 BeForever Doll – 2017 Release

by Katie Wallace | Updated: January 15, 2018

One my favorite things about having girls is seeing them enjoy the toys and activities that I loved as a child. American Girl is one of my all-time favorite brands. I loved collecting the American Girl dolls and accessories, making my dolls custom clothing and choosing new outfit sets from the AG catalog. I gave my oldest daughter my Truly Me American Girl doll as soon as she was old enough to take care of her and we’ve grown our collection with several new BeForever Dolls and the WellieWishers Camille and Ashlyn. My girls also enjoy dressing up American Girl’s latest BeForever doll Nanea Mitchell, a Hawaiian girl from 1941.

Nanea Mitchell American Girl doll review

American Girl Nanea Mitchell has big hazel eyes & wavy dark-brown hair. She arrives in an authentic 1940s-style outfit and includes the paperback book, Growing Up with Aloha. Nanea Mitchell has a heart to help take care of her friends and neighbors by sharing the aloha spirit. Kindness is extra important especially after the devastating attack on Pearl Harbor. Nanea’s story will introduce kids to important historical events and the value of coming together as a community to help in difficult times.

The 18″ Nanea doll has a huggable cloth body and a movable head and limbs made of smooth vinyl. She includes the paperback book Growing Up with Aloha, the first novel-length volume of Nanea’s classic series. My girls are too young to read by themselves but I will enjoy reading Nanea’s stories to them.

Nanea’s outfit includes a button-up blouse decorated with an island print, sailor-style moku shorts and brown sandals with cross-cross straps. She even comes with simple underwear and a hibiscus flower hair clip.

Nanea is also fun to dress up in her add-on Hula outfit which include a faux-ti-leaf skirt that rustles like the sounds of real hula skirts, red hawaiian top, colorful yellow leis and feathered gourd shakers. Nanea’s additional outfits and accessories are available separately, each highlighting traditional Hawaiian designs.

The American Girl doll collection includes many historical era BeForever dolls as well as TrulyMe dolls which girls can design to look like them. My girls favorites dolls include the WellieWishers friends who each come in a trendy outfit and Wellie boots. The WellieWishers enjoy playing outside, putting on a show and going on adventures. Bitty Baby dolls are designed for younger kids along with many baby doll gear sets, outfits and accessories. I also love that American Girl offers many matching outfit styles so girls can dress up to match their dolls.

American Girl offers so many dolls, accessories and characters to choose from; every girl is sure to find a favorite!

🌉 Destination Highlight: Tower Bridge, London! 🌉 Destination Highlight: Tower Bridge, London! 🇬🇧

Tower Bridge ended up being such a memorable stop! The walkways offer amazing views of the River Thames and the city skyline.

✨ Fun facts:

Tower Bridge opened in 1894 after eight years of construction.

It’s a bascule bridge, meaning the roadway lifts up for tall ships to pass through.

The glass floor walkways were added in 2014, giving visitors a thrilling (and slightly scary!) perspective from 138 feet above the Thames.

Our kids loved learning how the bridge lifts up using giant counterweights, and we all left with a new appreciation for London’s engineering and history. 💙

Would you be brave enough to walk across the glass floor? 😄

🏛️ British Museum – We explored Egyptian and Assyrian exhibits and even saw the Rosetta Stone! 🤯

We save a ton of money while traveling with these We save a ton of money while traveling with these creative housing options! ✨

Spend more time in each place you visit and live like a local, instead of just passing through.

We’ve loved discovering ways to travel that feel authentic and affordable!

🏠 HomeExchange lets you stay in real homes that are comfy, family-friendly, and full of character. With a unique points system, you can travel flexibly — like we do all around the world! Use your points to stay in memorable homes, or exchange your home directly. We’ve done both and made some unforgettable memories along the way!

🐱 Trusted Housesitters is another great housing resource. These arranged stays typically include caring for someone’s pets, while staying at their house. We’ve stayed in many beautiful homes in exchange for petsitting dogs, cats, and chickens!

🌍 Servas allows travelers to connect with hosts all around the world. We’ve stayed in a family’s extra bedrooms or living space and enjoyed a homecooked meal, while learning about local culture. Servas hosts typically love meeting new people and hearing their stories! 💛 It’s only tricky if you don’t speak the same language! 😆

Slow travel gives kids time to explore, play, and feel at home wherever we land — and gives us parents a chance to catch our breath between adventures.

Our family wandered the narrow stone streets, enjoyed the views of Tuscany, and soaked up the peaceful rhythm of this ancient town. It was quiet, charming, and perfect for families who love slow travel and beautiful history. 🇮🇹💛

🌿 If you ever visit Tuscany with kids, Pitigliano is a magical spot to add to your list.

Would you do laundry in a gas station parking lot? Would you do laundry in a gas station parking lot?? 😆

These mobile laundry machines were actually so helpful. We could wash and dry our whole family’s clothes while we had lunch nearby! 👚👗👕👖

After using these gas station laundry machines, our clothes were clean and dry — ready for our next adventure! ☀️

In Europe we are often on the go, so doing laundry efficiently is very helpful.

Secrets revealed 🌍 for family travel & worldsch Secrets revealed 🌍 for family travel & worldschooling!

These tips make traveling with kids ALOT easier!

📚 Schoolwork: Our kids complete lessons in their workbooks several times a week. While traveling, we often bring along Math-U-See workbooks, language arts, and spelling. This keeps our kids moving forward and feeling productive.

🏰 Field trips: We go on excursions to amazing castles, fascinating museums, and interesting cultural centers. We talk about geography and science as we explore amazing places!

🎧 Downtime: We often have rest time while traveling. We read books or listen to audio books and music.

💶 Allowance: We give our kids weekly spending money. They can earn this by doing chores at our Airbnb. I also pay our kids to participate in family photos, often $5 each per city! This results in great attitudes when taking photos in Paris, Rome, or London. 📸😀

With these tips, our travel life easily becomes regular life, and we get to see amazing destinations and make memories together!
