Traveling in the winter can be a fun way to mix up your family’s routine and spend some quality time together. When choosing a hotel on a family trip, it’s helpful to research destinations ahead of time so you know how long it will take to get there and which amenities are available for your family to enjoy. We’ve found that family travel especially with young kids goes much more smoothly with a little thoughtful planning.
Our cold weather travels took us to the Seattle area for a few days where we explored the Seattle Museum of Flight and visited the Tukwila Family Fun Center. We stayed at the Comfort Suites hotel in Tukwila, WA which ended up being a great choice for our family. Our hotel room layout comfortably accommodated our family of 5 and we enjoyed a delicious breakfast each morning and a refreshing dip in hot tub and spacious pool.
Cozy Hotel Lobby
Comfort Suites Tukwila greets visitors with a spacious lobby complete with comfy couches and plenty of space to chat or read in front of the cozy fireplace. A complementary coffee bar includes several types of coffee, hot water and iced lemon water. We easily checked into our hotel room and the staff was helpful and accommodating, even providing us with extra complimentary toothbrushes which we had forgotten to bring for the kids. One night we purchased some treats from the small hotel store which offers a variety of candy and snacks along with cosmetics such as travel-sized hairspray and deodorant.
Luxurious Deluxe Family Suite
Our family stayed in one of the Deluxe Suites which was ideal to accommodate the kids’ nap times and any late night movies my husband and I wanted to watch. Our Deluxe Suite included a main bedroom with two queen beds alongside living room seating, an additional bedroom with a king sized bed, and a standard bathroom. We put the kids in the additional bedroom so we could use the main living space after the kids went to sleep.
Main Hotel Room Highlights – Deluxe Suite
Two queen beds opposite large flat screen TV
Desk and chair next to the window
Fold-out couch for extra seating or extra bed
Microwave, small refrigerator and coffee maker
Complimentary Wifi
Extra Room Highlights
Secondary room separated by french doors
Second large flat screen TV opposite the bed
Large windows with 4th floor views
Hot Breakfast
We enjoyed the complimentary hot breakfast buffet that included cereal, bagels, muffins and fruit alongside scrambled eggs, sausage and hash browns. The kids could help themselves to cups of yogurt, hard boiled eggs, and individual servings of butter and cream cheese displayed in a mini refrigerator. On another counder top, guests can make their own mini waffles and pour a cup of orange or cranberry juice from a drink dispenser.
We highly value staying at a hotel that offers some type of breakfast because it can be challenging to feed kids early in the morning while on vacation. Comfort Suites Tukwila made it easy for us to wake up, get the kids ready and go downstairs and enjoy a generous breakfast right near the hotel lobby. I’d definitely recommend Comfort Suites Tukwila as a family travel destination because of the breakfast spread alone.
Pool & Hot Tub
Comfort Suites Tukwila also has a spacious indoor heated pool that feels just about as warm as bath water. One side of the pool is only a few feet deep so the kids could splash around without much hands-on help. The other side of the pool gets deeper up to 4 feet.
We also enjoyed a dip in the hot tub which was set at a perfect temperature for both kids and adults. Easily accessible steps makes it convenient to get in and out of both the pool and the hot tub.
Additional Hotel Amenities
Other hotel highlights include a laundry room with coin-operated washing machines and dryers for guests. I spotted several vending machines offering an assortment of middle-of-the-night snacks.
Outside the hotel there are picnic tables and plenty of grassy areas for families to go on a walk in warmer weather.
Comfort Suites Tukwila is very close to the Southcenter Mall shopping and restaurants and it’s located near the junction of I-405 and I-5 which would take you straight into Seattle. This family-friendly hotel is a great location to stay near the city but not in the city. Overall we really enjoyed our experience and we would go back the next time we are in the Seattle area!
