My life with young kiddos is made up of many busy days and kid-friendly activities. I’ve found it successful to have a loose schedule so my kids know what to expect each day. We do preschool most weekdays and the kids learn the alphabet names and sounds, practice writing letters and numbers, and we usually do a creative project. Once my kids finish a few pages of their school workbooks, it’s fun to enjoy a snack before doing a simple science activity or craft.

My kids love these pureed pouches of fruit and veggie blends, which are helpful for encouraging kids to try new flavors. My kids will at least try any combination that comes in one of these colorful pouches. Ella’s Kitchen food pouches are convenient to take on the go and they don’t need to be refrigerated. Tasty food pouches are helpful for turning picky eaters into little foodies!
My kids enjoyed all the Ella’s Kitchen combinations for the most part. The fruit combinations were their favorites and the chicken and rice combination was my kids’ least favorite, although this particular casserole food pouch would be a hearty baby food choice. My 2-year-old boy especially loved the {apples + strawberry} combination and {apples, sweet potatoes, pumpkin + blueberries} fruit puree.

While my kids are enjoying their snacks during our preschool mornings, I usually set up an easy creative activity or interactive project. One day the kids enjoyed fizzy color mixing, using simple ingredients I already had on hand.
Fizzy Color Mixing
This preschool science activity shows kids the cause and effect of mixing vinegar with baking soda. Kids can also mix colors together to make colorful bubbly designs. Gather these simple materials to do this colorful fizzy activity.
- Baking soda
- Vinegar
- Food coloring
- Small spoons
- 8 small tubs
Fill 4 small deli containers about 1/2 inch full with baking soda. Fill the other 4 containers with white vinegar and mix in a few drops of food coloring. I made each container of colored vinegar a different color.
Kids can use small spoons to drip the colored vinegar into the containers of baking soda. The colored vinegar will cause the baking soda to fizz and mixing colors will create colorful designs.
You can also explain to your kids that the reaction between baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) and vinegar (dilute acetic acid) generates carbon dioxide gas which creates the bubbles. This fizzy color mixing is a super easy and basic science project for young kids that creates minimal clean up.
My kids are pretty easy to keep happy with a few interactive activities and a handful of snacks. Our simple morning routine makes our days go much smoother; preschool ABC’s, a creative project, snack time, independent play with a sensory bin or a puzzle, lunch and naps.
How do you structure your days with young kids? My kids love doing indoor interactive activities when it’s cold outside and lots of outdoor play when it’s sunny and warm. I hope you are inspired to try some tasty organic snacks from Ella’s Kitchen or do your own fizzy coloring mixing project!
