I love the idea of using coupons to save money on things I buy. I also find it time consuming to cut out coupons, store them in an intentional spot, AND remember to use them at the store. I made this little DIY coupon box for storing my coupons. I keep it out of the way but still in sight so I’ll actually use my coupons, not lose them. You could also use this small box to store notes, receipts and other small paper items.
To make this coupon storage container, all you need is a small cardboard box. I used a recycled cornstarch box cut along one side to create the top opening. If your box is already opened, tape up the open sides of the container to create sturdy sides for your coupon box.
I covered my coupon box with white shelf paper, followed by a layer of printed shelf paper. This blocked out any print from the cornstarch box from showing through. Shelf paper is handy because it’s lightly adhesive on one side, and smooth and water resistant on the other side. Plus, shelf paper comes in many modern prints.
Cover the Box with White Shelf Paper
I completely covered the coupon box with shelf paper, wrapping the corners like a present. Finally, I secured the edges with tape for added reinforcement.
Add a Decorative Label
I made a little tag for the front of my coupon box as an added decoration. You could also print out a more descriptive label for your coupon storage box.
I attached the coupon box to our decorative black board, which is on one of our kitchen walls. I could also store this coupon box inside a kitchen cabinet or add magnets to attach it to our refrigerator.
Consider using a gentle adhesive if you plan to attach this DIY coupon box on a cabinet or something with a faux wood finish. You don’t want to damage your kitchen cabinets.
Organize Small Paper Items
This re-purposed coupon box is a cute and simple way to keep track of small pieces of paper, business cards, or even a piece of chalk or two. It costs practically nothing to make. You can even make a DIY coupon box that matches the style of your kitchen.
I love re-purposing things that would otherwise become trash. I also enjoy creating new ways to organize! What would you put in your coupon box?
