This homemade sugar scrub is easy to make using ingredients you have in your kitchen. I just rub this sugar scrub onto my skin to make it feel softer and refreshed. Sugar scrub is especially fun to use for DIY pedicures after you soak your feet! I love homemade body products because I know which ingredients are in them, which is very helpful for my mild eczema.
Sugar Scrub Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup coconut oil
- 2-3 drops of mint essential oil or 1 tsp. mint extract
- 2-3 drops of green food coloring (optional)
Make this homemade mint sugar scrub using these simple ingredients! If needed, heat the coconut oil in the microwave for 15 to 25 seconds until softened. Mix the sugar, coconut oil, mint fragrance and optional food coloring together in a small bowl until combined. The sugar scrub will have a sandy consistency.
Scoop out a small quantity of sugar scrub and massage it onto damp skin, using a gentle circular motion. You can also use sugar scrub to soften rough patches of skin, such as on your feet. Store your homemade sugar scrub in a small bowl or tub. If the oil separates a bit during storage, you can warm it up a little and give it a stir.
Homemade Sugar Scrub is Mildly Exfoliating
This homemade sugar scrub recipe is mild because it contains sugar which is naturally exfoliating. The coconut oil is soothing and not too greasy. Mint extract provides a bit of sensory fragrance and the light green color is just for fun!
I typically make homemade sugar scrub to use right away on my feet or legs. I mix the ingredients in a bowl so I can easily scoop out dabs of it.
After you’ve experienced the full benefits of this naturally grainy sugar scrub by rubbing it around, rinse it off and pat your skin with a towel.
Homemade Sugar Scrub is Giftable
Homemade sugar scrub is a lovely gift idea if you put it in a small container or jar. I think there’s something extra special about receiving pretty homemade body products. I found my jars at IKEA, but you can also snag some jars with flip lids on Amazon.

Homemade body products are inexpensive to make yourself and fun to use! If you don’t want to use the mint fragrance, you could experiment with using a few drops of your favorite essential oil. Or add another extract to your homemade sugar scrub such as lemon, lavender or coconut.
