Did you know you can turn a pumpkin into a colorful fall pumpkin planter? I’m sure we’ve all seen creative ways to carve a pumpkin. In this case, we took a fresh pumpkin and filled it with fall flowers. Use this idea to decorate a holiday party table or your front porch!
Easy DIY Pumpkin Planter
In just a few steps, easily make a planter out of a fresh pumpkin.
- First, buy a small to medium sized pumpkin, or pick one from your garden.
- Next, cut off the top of the pumpkin as if you were carving it, and scoop out the inside.
- Once you’ve cleaned out the inside of the pumpkin, fill the pumpkin with potting soil.
- Carefully plant fall flowers inside the pumpkin.
- Water the flowers inside the pumpkin planter.
The most labor intensive part of this project is cleaning out the pumpkin. I used a large spoon to scoop out the pumpkin seeds and pulp.
When the pumpkin is clean, you can plant flowers in it just like you would in a pot.
Fall Pumpkin Planter
A pumpkin planter lasts longest in cool temperatures. Use this fall decoration on a front porch or step. Alternatively, you can decorate a party table with a pumpkin planter. However, keep in mind that warmer temperatures inside a house will cause the carved pumpkin to get soft faster.
Additional Fall Family Ideas
Fall is a great time to make special memories with your family. We often go to a pumpkin patch and each of our kids pick out a pumpkin. I used one of those pumpkins to make a flower planter!
We also like doing creative activities such as making tissue paper leaf sun catchers. Furthermore, one year we painted leaves with whimsical designs.
